January 18, 2010 - Joe with constituent Beverly Britz from Women for African Grandmothers. They met to discuss legislation to amend and improve
Canada's Access to Medicines Regime (CAMR) that has been stalled
due to the prorogation of Parliament. CAMR  was created to allow
generic medicine companies in Canada to produce and export
 lower-cost versions of life-saving medicines to
developing countries.

November 17, 2009 - Joe with Canadian actor Carlos Rota on Parliament Hill. Joe met with members of ACTRA to discuss issues of concern to the Canadian film industry. Topics discussed included stable permanent funding for cultural institutions, Employment Insurance Benefits to the self-employed, and
requiring broadcasters to spend an increased percentage of their
revenues on Canadian programming.

April 21, 2009 – Joe Volpe with Karl Walsh, Mike Abbott, Thomas Froude, and Rick Perry of the Canadian Police Association (CPA). Mr. Volpe met with the CPA
during their Annual Police Day on the Hill. The CPA is the national voice for
 57,000 police personnel serving in 160 police services across Canada. They
are calling for the Government to follow through on their 2006 commitment to 
add 2,500 more frontline officers on the streets, an Independent Police
Association for the RCMP, a Public Safety Officer Compensation
Benefit, and Public Safety Occupation Designation for
Public Safety Personnel.

April 14, 2009 - Joe Volpe  Leila Springer and Millicent Douglas of the Olive Branch of Hope in Toronto. Mr. Volpe met with the organization, that is located in Eglinton-Lawrence, to discuss their work in the community. The Olive Branch of Hope is a non-profit organization that  exists to provide social, emotional , and spiritual support for women diagnosed with breast cancer. Their services are
open to all women with a focus on women of colour and other immigrant women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

2,500 people a day through the Baycrest Geriatric Health Care System. It

The organization is an initiative funded by the United Way of Greater Toronto and seeks to enhance neighbourhood life, increase participation of local residents in their community, and improve access to community resources.

 

August 20, 2008 – Joe Volpe visiting the Toronto Fire station at Amesbury Park with his grandchildren, Isabella and Alessandro. This Toronto Fire Department Unit was the first on the scene at the recent propane explosion in North York. My condolences go to the family and colleagues of the firefighter who was lost in the quelling of the fire and subsequent rescue. Condolences as well to the loved ones of the still unidentified deceased found in the ruins. Many thanks to the Toronto Fire Department for all their hard work in the community.



August 16, 2008 – Joe Volpe with Angelo Zito at Verdi Produce and Grocery Ltd. Mr. Volpe attended the 1st Annual York-Eglinton International Street Festival, in which Mr. Zito was an active supporter. The York-Eglinton International Street Festival was organized by York-Eglinton Business Improvement Area as part of its effort to revitalize Eglinton West as both a community and as a commercial destination point. Verdi Produce and Grocery Ltd. has been a fixture on Eglinton for well over twenty years.

August 14, 2008 – Joe Volpe attending the "Let Us Remember" event organized by UJA. The event commemorated the sacrifice made by the soldiers captured by Hezbollah leading up to and during the Israel-Lebanon war two summers ago. Recently, Mr. Volpe met with constituent Renanah Goldhar and others regarding the tabling of a petition in the House of Commons calling on Parliament to assist in the return of the remaining MIAs, and encouraging Parliamentarians to urge the International Red Cross to become engaged on the issue. 



 August 14, 2008 – Joe Volpe with Joe Mihevc, Toronto City Councillor for Ward 21, at the Open House Public Consultation for the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) Preliminary Planning for an Environmental Assessment. The Open House, conducted by city officials, was designed to serve as a platform for transit improvement opportunities being considered for Eglinton Avenue. Several constituents remarked that a public forum in the manner of a town hall may be a more preferable format for any subsequent meeting.



August 8, 2008 - Joe Volpe at a Memorial in Toronto organized by the Consulate General of Italy to commemorate the 52nd Anniversary of the disaster of Marcinelle. In 1956, 262 mine workers perished in Belgium; 136 were Italian. The Memorial ceremony was held at the Monument  "Caduti sul Lavoro" which honours the workers who died in the workplace. The event signals the recognition of the need to establish protocols for workplace safety in general and for vulnerable migrant workers in particular.

Mr. Volpe is with Geoff Shore from Tim Hortons and Nick Alampi, Chairmain of the York-Eglinton BIA. The annual "clean-up" raises awareness of civic responsibility and is a great initiative in what was once Toronto's most highly rated commercial community. July 8, 2008 - Joe Volpe meeting with directors from the Fu Hui (Canada) Foundation: Stanley Kwan, Grace Chum and Joseph Kung. The Foundation raised $800,000 for humanitarian aid and relief for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. They are submitting an application to the Canadian International Development Agency for a public, private partnership project in the effected areas. The earthquake in the Sichuan province has left over 220,000 people injured and over 4.8 million homeless.

April 21, 2008 - Joe Volpe presenting a certificate of congratulations to Principal Mary Whittaker of Briar Hill Public School. The school participated in Brush-a-Mania during Oral Health Month. The program organized by the Toronto Academy of Dentistry and the Rotary Club of Toronto, encourages young people to record each time they brush their teeth for three minutes over the month of April. At the end of the month, if students successfully complete the program, they receive a certificate, stickers, and sugarless gum.

Mr. Volpe attended the Oak-Ridges Markham Pierre Elliott Trudeau Dinner and Dance and was the guest speaker at the dual 40th Anniversary of Mr. Temelkovski's arrival in Canada and Mr. Trudeau's ascendancy to the Prime Minister's Office. Mr. Volpe reflected on the contributions of Mr. Trudeau towards the establishment of Canadian values which have drawn the Macedonian people. 


Feb. 15, 2008 - Joe with Maureen Basnicki, a widow from the 9/11 terrorist attack, and Eglinton-Lawrence constituents Sheryl Saperia and Danny Eisen who are members of the Canadian Coalition Against Terror. C-CAT is a non-partisan advocacy body comprised of Canadian terror victims, counter terrorism professionals and lawyers working on federal legislation Bill S-225. The Bill will enable Canadian terror victims and their families to launch civil suits against foreign states and local Canadian organizations and individuals that have supported terrorist entities responsible for the death or injury of victims. Mr. Volpe agreed to support the Bill and advocate to his caucus colleagues to support and move the legislation forward.

Joe met with the CFMS to discuss the critical issues facing our future doctors across Canada. The students were advocating to politicians to defer the repayment of Canada Student Loans and the accumulation of interest until the completion of their residency training programs.

Jan. 22, 2008 - Joe Volpe at the Toronto Green Community Energy Action Plan launch at the Lawrence Heights Community Centre. The riding of Eglinton-Lawrence was chosen for a pilot project to encourage constituents to learn about energy conservation and to act to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on "five pillars". The pillars of energy conservation are behavioural changes, transportation, home retrofits, appliance upgrades, and green power. Mr. Volpe is pictured with
constituents Alex and Trumain. Youth, parents, and community members will be engaged in an awareness building effort which will see neighbourhoods within the community challenge each other to further reduce their energy consumption.



Jan. 18, 2008 - Joe Volpe and constituents from Eglinton-Lawrence on the floor of the House of Commons in Ottawa. Joe took part in the 60th Annual Queen's University Model Parliament where students come to Ottawa and participate in debates as Members of Parliament. Dec. 21, 2007 - Joe Volpe and the Grade 5 class at West Preparatory School. Joe was invited by the school's Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Papachristos, to come speak to the students to discuss his job as the Member of Parliament for Eglinton-Lawrence. Each student wrote a letter to Mr. Volpe asking about his responsibilities as the MP for the constituency and they each received a letter back from Joe to answer their individual questions.

The event was celebrated at the Columbus Centre with dignitaries from Italy and representatives of local Italian clubs and associations. The event was a tribute to the presence and contribution of the Molisan community to the progress of Toronto and Canada. The Molisan community is 60,000 strong in Toronto.
